Creating warmer homes for Peterborough

What is Heataborough?

Heataborough is a scheme designed to help Peterborough residents heat their homes more efficiently and save money on their energy bills.

It runs over a five year period (2013 – 2018) and is part of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), a government initiative being delivered by British Gas, to help low income families access energy efficiency measures, such as loft and cavity wall insulation and boiler repairs or replacements.

The first focus is on a scheme called the Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO), also known as Affordable Warmth.

This provides heating and insulation improvements to homeowners or private tenants, where one member of the household is in receipt of benefits.

There’s no catch. If you meet the criteria, as detailed below, you don’t need to take out a contract or even get your energy from any specific supplier.

  • Child tax credit and has income below £15,860
